I hear people discounting cars because they run a "domestic" tranny.

But in the Z's case, if you look at the tranny, it's basically a Borg Warner T5. That is the same transmission that is used on Mustangs. But it's not really a "domestic" transmission, it's just a transmission from a transmission manufacturer.

If Borg Warner made 2 tranmissions, shipped one to Ford and it got put in the Mustang and shipped the other to Nissan and it got put into the 300ZX, how does that change the transmission at all? I know some Z31 guys rebuilt their tranny's using parts for a Mustang. It doesn't mean they're using parts that are any different, it just means they are using parts for a transmission that is used in multiple cars.

The point I'm trying to make is if someone buys a transmission, like a built-up T5 transmission that was made for a Mustang, and puts it in their Z, that doesn't mean that they have a "domestic" transmission. It just means they have a built up T5.
